Our Helicopter Ride Over London
Our Helicopter Ride Over London.
For Birthday and Christmas presents, we tend to buy each other experiences rather than things. As neither of us are materialistic, we find that ticking an activity off the list or creating a fun memory is so much more worthwhile than getting a new pair of shoes or something.
So, for my 21st birthday this year, Mark got us a helicopter trip over London! It had to be pushed back a few times due to low visibility which was annoying. But finally on Friday 22nd at 8.30am, we drove 30 mins to Epping, Essex, in the rain, but luckily it had cleared and visibility was ok by the time we had got there!
The helicopter was about as big as my car. We were given a briefing on what to do if the helicopter had to do a emergency landing on the Thames (to be honest we were secretly hoping for the added river tour!), and then climbed in before getting a picture in front of it.
The take off was so smooth that we didn’t even realise it was happening. The houses started to look like tiny Lego bricks and we could start to see London’s impressive skyline appearing just above the haze. (looks so cool in black and white!).
The pilot was obviously super experienced. Giving us a running commentary of what we were seeing below us, which was handy as it seemed like a completely different city seeing it from a birds eye view!
We followed the Thames upstream and flew over Buckingham palace, Big Ben and the London Eye etc, before heading back to Essex. We were in the air for around 30 mins but it felt more like 5!
Mark booked our helicopter ride with Adventure 001 and they were so nice and friendly, and were really helpful when they would call us to make sure we had visibility for our trip! Would deffo recommend, and they are dotted all over England!
Mark, thanks for this amazing birthday present, you win this year!
